Doctorat en Filologia Llatina a la Universitat de Barcelona (1993), sota la direcció de Josep Lluís Vidal i Francisco Rico. Ha estat becari postdoctoral a The Warburg Institute (University of London) i professor i investigador a la Universitat de Nottingham (1995-2008). Ha treballaz sobre la difusió europea de l´Humanisme italià. Un segon aspecte de la seva recerca és l´estudi de la recepció de la literatura clàssica a la cultura literària hispànica del Cinc-cents.
